SIAR solidifies Mexico as a significant destination for the most opulent watchmaking

Mexico City, October 23rd 2023 - The Salon International Alta Relojería México (SIAR) concluded its 17th edition with successful attendance and the launch of new watch novelties. A cordial atmosphere that gathers the leaders of the watchmaking industry who have witnessed the consolidation of the watch market in Mexico year after year. Three exhilarating days during which collectors, jewelers, and prestigious watch brands celebrated their shared passion for special timepieces that can only be seen and touched at SIAR. In essence, global launches, Mexican editions, and special events filled these three dynamic days, bringing together 49 luxury firms. This edition further confirms a greater influx of young enthusiasts of timepieces. Three days of pure haute horlogerie that demonstrate the watch sector's robust health despite global uncertainties.

In an environment with some economic uncertainty in important markets for watchmaking, Mexico's stability is undoubtedly good news. The response from the public and well-positioned brands was evident in this edition of SIAR, with the same attendance of end customers, jewelers, media, and influencers, all yielding positive results," stated Carlos Alonso, SIAR's General Director.

Worldwide launches

With 3,964 participants and over 230 accredited journalists this year, SIAR offers a comprehensive solution for presenting iconic models from renowned brands. Among these luxury houses, IWC stands out, introducing two iconic models: Pilot's Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland and Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Mojave Desert. Other watches that made their debut at SIAR for the first time include Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Maritime Blue, Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Tourbillon (the brand's first tourbillon), Cvstos Chrono Sprint Steel/Sky Blue, Gerarld Charles Maestro 3.0 Chronograph, Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin, and Leica ZM11. Some models made their first appearance at a watch exhibition on this stage in Mexico City. These include Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Manual, Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar, Speake-Marin Academic Rouge, Backes & Strauss The Berkeley Helios, and Perrelet Turbine Titanium.

Love for Mexico

There is no doubt that collectors attending SIAR adore special editions with national motifs. In this regard, several brands created very exclusive pieces. De Bethune presented Cempasúchil II, Chopard L.U.C Skull One Calavera Pop Art, Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Edición México, and Baume & Mercier Riviera 42 mm Limited Edition Mexico, all inspired by Mexican culture.

Biver, the watchmaking house introduced in March of this year by the genius Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre, chose SIAR as the destination to showcase their first creation to the public, a minute repeater with carillon. Attendees at the salon celebrated their unique piece, La Danse du Temps, inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead.

The event, which has become a reference in the world of luxury in Mexico and Latin America, welcomed Tudor, who returned after eight years with a large space displaying all their new products, including the new Pelagos FXD Chrono.

SIAR welcomed brands making their first appearance, such as Longines, which showcased its latest offerings and hosted an event with the dancer Greta Elizondo, a friend of the brand. It was also the first time at the salon for Seiko, Gerald Charles, the brand founded by Gerald Genta, Leica watches, and Golden Concept, a Swedish producer of custom cases inspired by high watchmaking for Apple Watch. All of them joined the veteran brands at the salon.

This year, a partnership with W Radio Mexico turned SIAR into a forum where prominent Mexican broadcasters such as Gaby Warketin, Martha Debayle, and Carlos Loret de Mola gave voice to the leaders and protagonists of the watchmaking industry. This strategic partnership turned haute horlogerie into headline news for three days. "Having W Radio has helped make watches a topic of interest to a wider audience," acknowledged Carlos Alonso.

Experiences at their best

One of the attractions of SIAR is the variety of experiences that brands organize to immerse visitors in the world of watchmaking. In this regard, Hublot celebrated the launch of Big Bang Unico Titanium Green Ceramic Mexico, a limited edition with a cactus strap. David Tedeschi, General Manager for Latin America & the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Africa, played host alongside Ana de la Reguera and Belinda at the party that followed the unveiling of the limited edition. Another watch that drew all the attention was the Classic Fusion High Jewellery, a unique piece presented for the first time at SIAR.

Bulgari received its ambassador, actor Alejandro Spetizer, and actress Renata Notni in its private suite. As a luxury host, Fabrizio Buonamassa, Bulgari's Creative Director, also attended. Jaeger-LeCoultre transported visitors to the Atelier d'Antoine with two masterclasses led by Stéphane Belmont, the Heritage Director of the watch manufacture.

Cuervo y Sobrinos invited John Hemingway, the grandson of Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway, who spoke about the Historiador Hemingway Iconic collection. They also awarded the Latin Award, celebrating Latin culture, for the first time at SIAR, to actor Mauricio Ochmann.

Sponsors also added exclusive experiences to the event's three days. American Express invited its Platinum and Centurion customers to engaging conversations with industry leaders present at the salon. Jean-Claude Biver, Fabrizio Buonamassa, and David Tedeschi exchanged passion and watch culture in a close-knit atmosphere. Möet Hennessy and Mercedes-Benz served as luxury sponsors, further enhancing the event's appeal.
