Zeitwinkel Introduces Central Seconds Hand

16 years have passed since the introduction of its first watches which in turn followed a development phase of the automatic in-house movements of three years. Just the right time span for the Swiss watch brand Zeitwinkel to now relaunch its watch models with central seconds hand. The new timepieces are available in either a case diameter of 39mm or 42.5mm. All variations continue to be based on Zeitwinkel’s proprietary automatic German Silver calibers and offer an elegant yet modern way of owning a Zeitwinkel watch.

This statement perfectly sums up the essence of the Swiss manufacture watch brand Zeitwinkel. It explains why the founders insisted on developing their own automatic movements from scratch, why they stubbornly refuse to adapt their watch designs to passing trends and why they gladly pass on taking shortcuts in favor of applying traditional watchmaking methods wherever it makes sense to use them.

The redesigned watches are built in two versions: either with a central seconds hand (model 082°) or more puristic with only the display of hours and minutes (model 312°).

Both variants can be ordered in either 39mm or 42.5mm case diameter. The available dial colors are Galvanic Silver, Galvanic Anthracite and a combination of Glacier Blue and Galvanic Silver.

The Zeitwinkel team deliberately decided against offering the option of a date display for now. The automatic in-house caliber ZW0102 however offers that possibility for a later stage.

The Zeitwinkel caliber ZW0102 used in the watches was designed and developed in the Swiss Jura and is manufactured by Zeitwinkel with plates and bridges made from uncoated German Silver. The watchmakers spend a lot of time decorating every component, even under the wheels and on the underside, where no watch owner will ever see it.

Zeitwinkel’s artisanal production, the warm color tone and the elaborate decoration make every manufacture caliber ZW0102 unique. The ZW0102 has an impressive diameter of 30.4mm, uses 30 jewels and a total of 257 components. Fully wound, it will power the watch for 72 hours. Thanks to the strong automatic winding mechanism, this long power reserve is almost never used.

The new Zeitwinkel models can be commissioned by customers starting immediately and, like every Zeitwinkel timepiece, will be manufactured upon order. A wide range of strap options is available.

About Zeitwinkel

Zeitwinkel is an independent watch brand founded in 2006 and still run by the founders. The name refers to a measure of the exact local time.

The distinctive feature of every Zeitwinkel watch is the Zeitwinkel manufacture caliber with bidirectional automatic winding mechanism and 72-hour power autonomy. The Zeitwinkel watchmakers in the Saint-Imier manufacture spend the majority of their time working on the movement components and on decorating them.

Instead of regularly introducing new watch models to keep up with the latest fashion trends, the founders create watches they would want to wear themselves. They refuse to take shortcuts but rather embrace traditional watchmaking methods, which is why every Zeitwinkel timepiece contains significantly more manual watchmaking than other watches at this price point.
