Solar Aqua Mishipeshu Odino

From the glacial waters of the Great Lakes to the snow-covered peaks of Baffin Island, Solar Aqua presents the new Mishipeshu Odino 40 mm: the compact, sharper and more powerful evolution of its professional diver. Norse mythology meets the morphology of the Canadian landscape in a watch that blends abyss and altitude, inspired by the ancestral spirit of the waters and by the majesty of Mount Odin, the highest peak of the Canadian Arctic Cordillera.

According to Native legends, Mishipeshu is the invisible guardian of the Great Lakes, a draconic mythological entity watching over the fragile balance of these immense basins. To this totemic creature Solar Aqua dedicates a timepiece capable of reaching depths of 500 metres, symbolically surpassing even the deepest point of Lake Superior, at 406 metres, indicated on the dial.

Today Mishipeshu becomes Odin, also evoking the rocky power of the Canadian mountain of the same name, rising 2,147 metres above Baffin Island. A symbolic union between water and earth, between immersion and ascent, between myth and landscape.

The 40 mm case in brushed, matte-finished 316L stainless steel preserves the tool-watch solidity of the original model, while renewing itself through optimised proportions and sharper edges. The design is conceived to face every underwater challenge with technical and aesthetic rigour.

Beneath the domed sapphire crystal, the multi-level dial draws inspiration from frozen seabeds and the rocky walls of Mount Odin, with enhanced three-dimensionality and a camouflage effect. The details recall, on one side, the legendary sea panther Mishipeshu, and on the other, Odin’s trident, in a mythological narrative evoking the ancestral struggle between opposing forces. Three evocative colour variants are available: abyss black, moss green and deep blue.

The dial, which allows a glimpse of the movement, recalls the ice floes drifting across the Great Lakes, transforming the timepiece into a modern skeleton diver with a multi-level dial and strong visual impact. A second transparent dial, in the same tone as the three-dimensional dial, gives the movement a smoky hue and amplifies its visual effect.

The dial is framed by a unidirectional bezel with multiple facets ensuring a secure grip even when wearing gloves, while lending both ergonomics and a strong identity to the design. The geometric architecture of the bezel, featuring raised indexes, breaks away from the roundness of the previous version, adopting a sharper, more contemporary language suited both to extreme underwater missions and to everyday casual wear.

A visual journey that captures the eye starting from the bezel and the hands, emerging through chromatic contrast, then focusing on the Super-LumiNova-treated indexes, an essential requirement for any professional diver, and on the two superimposed dials offering a view of the movement.

On the right side of the case stands a distinctive crown, characterised by a raised knurled pattern recalling a mesh texture, topped by a small cylinder engraved with the brand logo.

Inside the case beats a high-precision Swiss Peseux movement, animating the oversized arrow hands and indexes, treated with Super-LumiNova. On the laser-engraved case back, a map of the Great Lakes pays tribute to the brand’s geographical origins, while on the sides of the case GPS coordinates recall both the island linked to the Mishipeshu myth and Mount Odin. The serial number is positioned at the lug attachment point.

Completing the timepiece are drilled lugs, lightened to improve ergonomics, and a silicone strap available in two versions: a modern one with longitudinal stripe pattern, or a crocodile-print version, both perfectly coordinated with the dial, testifying to the balance between performance and sporty elegance.

Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century by Timothy Eaton, visionary entrepreneur and pioneer of North American retail, Solar Aqua accompanied the missions of the Royal Canadian Armed Forces with robust, functional and reliable watches, establishing itself as a symbol of military and technical watchmaking.
