Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone
Piaget unveils a new addition combining yellow and white gold in a striking interpretation which honors both the original 1979 design, spirit, sophistication and the Maison’s uncompromising commitment to precious metal excellence. Because Piaget only measures time in gold.
For Piaget, gold is and has always been a source of creativity. In 1969, the Maison unveiled the 21st Century Collection, a series of avant-garde gold jewellery watches - between cuff watches and Swinging Sautoirs- a perfect marriage of its history in watchmaking and High Jewellery. Gold has always been central to Piaget: melted in-house at its Geneva foundry, it became a canvas for both watches and jewellery creations. The 1970s saw the arrival of elegant, steel sports watches, but there was nothing like the Piaget Polo—a sports elegant watch, fully casted in gold. A passionate equestrian, Yves Piaget fused his love of polo and the high life into a watch that came to define the glamour of the 1980s, worn as naturally at Palm Beach polo clubs, as at Chez Regine in New York. “A bracelet watch and a watch bracelet” as he used to say.
A legacy reimagined
In 2024, 45 years after its debut, the original Piaget Polo was reborn as the Piaget Polo 79 for the 150th anniversary of the Maison. Awarded “Iconic Watch” at the GPHG in 2024, the renaissance began with the icon’s return in radiant yellow gold, followed in 2025 by the refined white gold iteration that offers enhanced versatility. Now in 2026, Piaget introduces the “Two-Tone”– a harmonious marriage of precious metals which recalls one of the Piaget Polo’s original 1979 configurations, designed for connoisseurs who demand distinction and wearability.
The new Polo 79 “Two-Tone” represents more than just a simple combination of metals; it embodies Piaget’s philosophy that “time should only be measured in gold”. This philosophy, deeply rooted in its DNA since 1957, continues to drive creativity while respecting the timeless codes which make the Piaget Polo an icon. True to Piaget’s signature Extraleganza style, the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone showcases its mastery of gold craftsmanship. The brushed white gold case and integrated bracelet are dramatically punctuated by the gadroons in polished yellow gold. This careful interplay of metals creates visual depth and texture while maintaining the Piaget Polo’s signature style. The solid gold dial seamlessly integrates the same philosophy, with brushed yellow gold hands offering a final touch of refinement.
Ultra-thin mastery
Within the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone beats the caliber 1200P1, Piaget’s ultra-thin micro-rotor mechanical movement measuring just 2.35mm in thickness. This technical achievement ensures the watch maintains the silky, elegant profile on the wrist that has become synonymous with Piaget’s approach to luxury sports elegance. The movement is just the latest evolution in Piaget’s celebrated legacy of ultra-thin watchmaking—an expertise that has distinguished its manufacture for generations. Combined with the 38mm case and fully integrated bracelet design, the result is an exceptionally comfortable watch that adapts gracefully to a variety of wrist sizes and occasions. This thoughtful execution demonstrates how Piaget has consistently created watches that capture the essence of their era while maintaining their unmistakable character.
A return to origins
The Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone represents a pure expression of the original Piaget Polo design, thoughtfully updated for the contemporary connoisseur. While Piaget offered a two-tone configuration from the very beginning in 1979, these timepieces are rarely seen today—once the preferred choice of the stylish who demanded a unique blend of elegance and everyday wearability. To the casual observer, the interplay of brushed white gold and yellow gold might even suggest stainless steel. But this was never the case from the House of Gold, where precious metals remained the only acceptable canvas for horological artistry. The Two-Tone’s revival speaks to modern collectors' evolving appreciation for watches that balance sporting spirit with refined versatility. For those who embody Piaget’s everyday Extraleganza—where style, sport, and elegance meet.
