Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 & Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791

Road to Naples 2027: Panerai celebrates the countdown to the 38th America’s Cup by introducing two new Luminor Luna Rossa timepieces.

With the competition for the 38th America’s Cup entering its core phase in less than a year in the vibrant city of Naples, Italy, Panerai continues its partnership with Luna Rossa as Official Sponsor, standing side by side with the Team on their journey to conquer the coveted trophy.

To accompany the Team in their quest, the Maison unveils two new Luminor Luna Rossa timepieces, furthering a collaboration established in 2019 and shaped by a shared commitment to technical innovation, performance, and the sea.

This dedication is reflected in each novelty, which mirrors a specific understanding of function, whether through the speed tachymeter of the limited edition Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 or through the dual-time versatility of the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791. Together, they express two complementary readings of performance as Italy gets ready to host one of sailing’s most demanding competitions for the very first time.

The new Panerai Luna Rossa Collection embodies the essence of Panerai’s pioneering spirit, blending our rich marine heritage and unparalleled precision with the cutting-edge innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence that defines the Luna Rossa Team.” states Emmanuel Perrin, CEO of Panerai. “This partnership is more than just a collaboration; it’s a shared journey started 8 years ago into the future of high-performance watchmaking, celebrating courage, technology, and the thrill of the open sea, serving as a real-world test laboratory for our timepieces. We are proud to accompany the team in their quest for the America’s Cup 2027.”

For Panerai, the foundation of this dialogue lies firmly within its own history. The Maison’s pillar of innovation was shaped through functional instruments conceived for challenging conditions, where technical development was always tied to purpose. Since 2019, the partnership with Luna Rossa has offered a real-world environment in which that attitude has found new expressions, becoming a platform through which Panerai continues to explore materials, complications, and performance-led design.

From innovative materials such as the Ti-Ceramitech™ to function-driven interpretations including chrono flyback, Regatta countdown and GMT, the collaboration has progressively extended this exchange through watches conceived as instruments shaped by use.

Through testing, validation, and an understanding of performance grounded in real conditions, the watches adhere to a vision in which design and technicity are closely aligned, and where every complication is expected to serve a precise function.

Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768

The new limited edition Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768, presented in a 44mm steel case, brings the chronograph function into the Luna Rossa collection through a configuration that combines Panerai’s functional design language with distinctive references to the team’s visual identity.

At its core is the automatic P.9210 calibre, a chronograph movement measuring 13 ¼ lignes and 6.9 mm in thickness, with 41 jewels, a Glucydur® balance wheel, a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour, and an Incabloc® anti-shock device. Offering a 42-hour power reserve through a single barrel, it drives the hours, minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and chronograph functions with a construction conceived for dependable performance. Particular attention has been given to the automatic winding process, validated at Panerai’s Manufacture in Neuchâtel, resulting in a faster and more reliable response in use, while the movement is refined with vertical brushed finishing and blue varnish decoration.

The watch features the speed tachymeter function through the scale on the rehault that allows sailors to calculate their boat’s average speed over a certain distance, a crucial feature for Luna Rossa where every second of the competition can make a difference. The scale is paired with a central red and white chronograph seconds hand to calculate average speed over a fixed distance, displaying the result in kilometers or miles per hour on the flange. The chronograph must first be stopped and reset; it is then started at the beginning of the measured distance by pressing the pusher, and stopped once 1,000 meters have been covered. The chronograph seconds hand then indicates the corresponding average speed per hour directly on the flange. The red accented pushers are positioned on the left side of the case, at 8 and 10 o’clock, preserving the visual identity of the crown protective bridge while maintaining the recognizable profile of the Luminor case.

The watch is housed in a brushed steel case with a polished bezel, a combination that reflects a familiar Panerai construction while emphasizing the assertive character of the Luminor. A silver sun-brushed dial with rhodium tones, illuminated by white Super-LumiNova® X2, set the stage for Luna Rossa-inspired details to come to the fore. The grey small seconds hand and chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock stand out clearly while the sub-counters are finished with concentric circles in ‘azurage’, adding texture to the display. The ‘azurage’ technique is a pattern created using a specialized tool that carves concentric circles into the dial, resulting in an illusion of moving waves adding depth and texture to the surface of the dial. Paired with Super-LumiNova® X2, the mix contributes to improving the overall readability of the watch, a nod to the DNA of Panerai in elevated functionality.

The closed steel case back is engraved with the watch’s individual number, identifying it within the limited edition of 500 pieces.

Water-resistant up 10 bar (~100 meters), it is conceived to support the practical function of the chronograph in a sporting context. This performance is rigorously validated at the Laboratorio di Idee, where each watch – except Bronze and Minute Repeater – undergoes advanced water-pressure testing exceeding its guaranteed rating by 25% in machines that combine air and water tests, allowing precise measurement and sealing integrity under load. Innovation at Panerai extends to the user experience and a notable new element of the watch is its velcro strap, introduced for the first time in the Luna Rossa collection. With its 24/22 taper – 24 mm at the case and 22 mm at the buckle – and elastic construction, it is designed to be adjusted quickly and worn with ease, bringing a high level of comfort and practicality on the wrist. Particularly suited to active use and contact with water, it lends the watch a more technical, immediate character that feels especially relevant to the Luna Rossa world. The watch is also supplied with a second rubber strap, offering an alternative configuration consistent with its performance-led identity.

The new Luminor is presented within a deluxe blue cherry wood box, comprising a second rubber strap in black.

Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791

Compact, versatile, and designed for broader wearability, the new Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 in 40 mm makes its debut as the first timepiece featuring a metal bracelet in the Luna Rossa collection, expanding the line through a more adaptable expression of its collaborative spirit, balancing sporting functions with a wider presence in the Luna Ross world.

The novelty is powered by the automatic P.900/GMT movement, a calibre renowned for its reliability with a 3-day power reserve. The caliber integrates functions within the confines of remarkably streamlined proportions, measuring 12½ lignes (28.2mm) in diameter and only 5.20 mm thick. The energy necessary to accumulate a power reserve of three days is delivered by a bidirectional oscillating weight and stored in a single barrel. Its balance wheel, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, is securely fixed in position by a balance cock. The calibre is also equipped with a stop-second function that enables synchronization.

Visible through the open case back, the movement features the 12-hour “GMT Business”, a complication intrinsically linked to the regatta world and competition series, allowing users to track times in different locations. The GMT function with a 12-hour display is a return to the Maison’s heritage, echoing some of the earliest models developed in the early 2000s, while adding a new dimension to the watch’s usability, especially for those who track multiple time zones, whether in relation to international exchanges, race schedules, or wider team coordination.

Set in a 40 mm steel case, the dial is executed in silver sun-brushed finish with white Super-LumiNova® X2, and continues the Luna Rossa visual language through a more streamlined layout. The small seconds counter is accented by a red small second, while the top plate of the dial also features ‘azurage’, the concentric circular finish that adds detail and dimension to the display. The GMT hand itself is inspired by the sail shape of the Luna Rossa boat which follows the direction of sailing forward. This new timepiece, like PAM01768, is water-resistant up 10 bar (~100 meters) with validated testing exceeding its guaranteed rating by 25%.

Panerai’s taper-shaped metal bracelet is introduced here for the first time on a Luna Rossa watch, giving the piece a different register within the collection: sporty yet versatile, practical in the context of water and daily wear. Equipped with Panerai’s PAM Click™ release system, it requires no tool for easy changes, allowing the bracelet to be removed and exchanged easily for another strap configuration from the Maison’s accessory offering.

The new Luminor is presented within Panerai standard box, crafted from recycled paper and including a travel pouch for convenient watch transport.
