Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Worn & Wound
Watches are more than tools or accessories—they are objects of utility, joy, and art. With the Louis Erard x Worn & Wound collaboration, the goal was not to create a watch that fitly neatly into a category, but to design something wholly distinct: a composition of textures, colors, and dimensionality that transforms timekeeping into an aesthetic experience.
Louis Erard’s regulator, with its unconventional separation of hours, minutes, and seconds, provided the perfect foundation. This uncommon layout presented challenges and opportunities alike, ultimately inspiring a dial of three expressive layers. The base features a cool, near-white surface against which skeletonized hour and seconds disks appear to float. Above it, an expanse of fluted light blue marks the minutes without distraction, while the topmost layer, rendered in deep lacquered cobalt, draws focus with crisp white numerals and indexes. Together, the elements create a striking interplay of motion and depth, classical refinement and contemporary design.
At the center, a bold, polished minute hand, inspired by Louis Erard’s signature “fir tree” design, anchors the composition with sculptural clarity. Time is read as the skeletonized disks rotate beneath, their numerals and markings seemingly alive as they align with extrusions from the elevated minute frame. The effect is whimsical yet precise: a regulator reimagined.
Housed in Louis Erard’s 39mm polished steel case with a bowl-shaped mid section and straight lugs, the watch balances elegance with presence. A 20mm pebbled taupe leather strap completes the design, complementing the dial’s tonal blues without distraction. Inside, the Swiss-made Sellita SW266-1 automatic movement powers the regulator layout, featuring 31 jewels, 28,800 bph, hacking, hand-winding, and a custom Louis Erard rotor.
This collaboration was never about shortcuts. Together with Worn & Wound, we spent three years shaping the most ambitious idea rather than settling for the simple one. The result is nothing short of extraordinary — one of my favorite Louis Erard editions to date.” - Manuel Emch
In the last several years, Louis Erard has championed a new era of independent brands that make elements of haute horology accessible without sacrificing quality. They also embrace challenging designs, putting passion and art before commerciality. These are values that closely align with Worn & Wound’s, making them a brand we knew we had to collaborate with.
Given Louis Erard’s willingness to push boundaries, the goal for the Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Worn & Wound was to reinterpret the regulator layout and then refine an aesthetic around it. A true collaboration where ideas were shared, discussed, and iterated, the resulting watch touches on the traditional while being entirely distinct, and brushes against the avant-garde while being easy to digest. Also, it’s utterly beautiful. We couldn’t be happier with the result.” - Zach Weiss.
An edition of up to 99 pieces, the first 50 will be available exclusively through the Windup Watch Shop online and at its Brooklyn showroom. Depending on demand, the remaining 49 will be assembled, but no more.
