On 4th July 1776, in Philadelphia, a founding document was written that would transform the face of the world: the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. Drafted largely by Thomas Jefferson, it proclaimed the right of peoples to self-determination, laying the foundations for a new political model and a universal quest: for liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness.

This text, born in the midst of the war of independence against British rule, was the result of a dynamic vision: that of thirteen colonies united by a deep desire for emancipation. Since then, it has embodied a timeless ideal, a statement of principles broader than America itself, which continues to inspire nations and generations.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of this historic document, Laurent Ferrier has introduced the Classic Origin 250, an exceptional limited edition designed as a watchmaking tribute to the founding declaration of the United States.

A tribute that is as personal as it is historic The United States not only occupies a central place in world history, it also holds an equally special place in the history of Laurent Ferrier himself. It was indeed the very first public audience to recognise his talent as a watchmaker-designer, right from the Maison’s inception. This early and enthusiastic support was decisive: it was at the instigation of American collectors that Laurent Ferrier presented his very first creation at the GPHG in 2010.

This defining moment was not merely a recognition but a revelation: the encouragement of his peers to continue his incredible journey, to create not just a watch, but a true brand, faithful to his values of understated elegance and respect for time.

An iconic model

The Classic Origin needs no introduction, having over the years become one of the brand's most iconic models. Featuring the round Classic titanium case with a diameter of 40 mm and inspired by a pebble polished by the waves, it also incorporates a generous ball-shaped crown and an exclusive dial.

The slightly patinated appearance of this new opaline beige dial is accented with warm tones thanks to the brown transfers on the logo, railway minute track, central cross, and hour and second markers. The red calligraphic initials of the 13 colonies mark the circumference, in place of the minute track numerals. The words of the Declaration of Independence appear in beige tone-on-tone lettering. A screen print that is as discreet as it is meaningful. This text alternately appears and fades depending on the light. Always visible and matching the initials of the colonies, in bright red, are the words “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” accompanied by the dates “1776-2026”. The 18K white gold Assegai hands complete the composition.

Beneath the sapphire case-back is the LF116.01 hand-wound calibre. In the centre, a screw balance is guided by a curved Breguet-type hairspring. This combination enables increased accuracy while reducing positional deviations. There is also the famous long-blade ratchet, inspired by pocket watches from the last century. Polished and hand-finished, it delivers a unique sensation when wound, worthy of the most demanding timepieces. The power reserve is 80 hours.

Although the LF116.01 calibre is more refined than other movements in the collection, it nonetheless meets the same high standards of finish. The bridges are sand-blasted and coated with black rhodium, while each edge and screw is patiently polished by hand. All of the finishes, including the internal angle, showcase the meticulous craftsmanship of the company's decorators.

A brown calfskin leather strap with ivory stitching and Alcantara lining, as well as a titanium pin buckle, complete this Classic Origin 250 tribute edition. This is a limited series of 25 pieces exclusively dedicated to the Americas, offered at a public price of 44’000 USD without tax.
