Hanhart x Gentry Labs Red Lion Mk II Limited Edition
"What if the legendary 417 ES, once created for army pilots, had a successor with enhanced functions?" With the new Red Lion Mk II, Hanhart answers precisely this question. Together with TGV, founder of the pioneering YouTube channel “The Urban Gentry” and design studio “Gentry Labs”, a chronograph was created that picks up on the functional DNA of the historic 417 ES and develops it further - a timepiece with many functions designed for everyday use.
The "Big Eye" at 3 o'clock and small minute stop hand with Super-Luminova® and red hand tip significantly increase the legibility of the stop minute. The precise 24-click, 12-hour stainless steel bezel enables the quick and easy setting of a second time zone, also known as "GMT-light", without compromising the functionality and readability of the watch. The date at 6 o'clock and a flyback movement with column wheel complete the chronograph and make it the perfect companion - from the cockpit to the office.
When history flies on
The Red Lion Mk II carries the heritage of the historic 417 ES, but translates it into a more modern, technical design language. The 39 mm stainless steel case (height: 13.6 mm, lug-to-lug: 46 mm) combines brushed and polished surfaces and is equipped with a bidirectional rotating 12-hour stainless steel bezel with 24 clicks - a well thought-out detail that not only supports precise time-keeping, but also enables a second time zone to be read without the need for an additional GMT hand, the so-called "GMT-light" function.
The bezel is rotated according to the time difference so that the time in another location can be read directly on the dial. This solution offers the functionality of a classic GMT watch in a particularly intuitive and robust form - ideal for travelers, pilots and all those who are on the move between two time zones.
A highly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the dial ensures optimum readability. The case is water-resistant to 10 bar (100 m) in accordance with DIN 8310.
The screw-down case back bears a consecutive serial number and presents the column wheel flyback movement with a sapphire crystal back. The "Gentry Labs Watermark" is discreetly printed on the inside of the transparent glass back. The logo reinforces the collaboration without restricting the view of the movement.
Robust, accurate, reliable - the AMT5100 M hand-wound movement with flyback
Inside the Red Lion Mk II is the hand-wound AMT5100 M movement from Sellita's Manufacture AMT department - a switching wheel caliber with flyback function, date, small seconds, 30-minute counter, central stop second and a power reserve of 58 hours. The movement beats at 4 Hertz (28,800 vibrations per hour), is shockproof and is carefully adjusted in the Hanhart manufactory - to an accuracy of 0 to +8 seconds per day. Robust, precise and built for all those who appreciate mechanical perfection and authentic function.
Focus on perfect readability
The Red Lion Mk II is all about maximum legibility. The matte black dial with white Arabic numerals and the classic Hanhart logo at 12 o'clock avoids any distractions. The 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock is significantly larger - a so-called "big eye" - and the hand features Super-LumiNova® C1 X2 as well as a red tip for optimum contrast by day and night. The hour, minute and second hands from the center as well as the numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova® C1 X2 and ensure perfect legibility even in difficult lighting conditions.
Hanhart x Gentry Labs
The Red Lion Mk II follows on from one of the first watches in the modern 417 ES collection - the original 417 ES Red Lion, a special edition that marked the start of a new generation of Hanhart chronographs. Together with TGV, founder of the internationally renowned watch channel The Urban Gentry, Hanhart continues to write this story and transforms the legacy of the 417 ES Red Lion into an even more functional form.
In close collaboration with the team in Gütenbach, a watch was created that combines the essence of military functionality with modern aesthetics - precise, robust and uncompromisingly authentic. The aim was to create a vision of what a further development of the 417 ES would have looked like - with a stronger focus on functionality, clearer contrasts, optimized readability and a more technical, yet contemporary design language. A watch that preserves the spirit of classic pilot's chronographs and at the same time reflects progress.
A fine detail on the watch refers to this special collaboration: the "Gentry Labs Watermark", discreetly integrated into the sapphire crystal of the display back. This subtle feature acts as a sign of authenticity and a silent signature of the cooperation between The Urban Gentry and Hanhart - visible only on closer inspection and an expression of their shared passion for precision, history and authenticity.
The red pusher - a symbol of history
As with other Hanhart pilot's chronographs, the Red Lion Mk II is also equipped with the distinctive red HyCeram® pusher - a trademark with deep meaning. Legend has it that a pilot's mistress once painted the chronograph pusher red so that he would always remember her on a mission and return safely.
Historically, however, the red color served a practical purpose: it was intended to protect pilots from unintentionally resetting the stop time - particularly important for watches with a flyback function, which allows the time measurement to be restarted immediately at the touch of a button.
The pusher is made of HyCeram®. HyCeram® is an innovative hybrid ceramic consisting of a special composite of inorganic glass-ceramic particles and a polymer matrix.
The material is cured under UV or heat and combines the hardness and color stability of ceramic with the elasticity and impact resistance of modern plastics.
Two strap options - maximum functionality
The watch is supplied with either an FKM rubber strap or a solid stainless-steel bracelet. The FKM (fluoroelastomer) used is a high-performance material that is used in the aerospace and automotive industries in addition to the watch sector. It is characterized by exceptional resistance to heat, chemicals, oils and fuels - ideal for sporting or professional applications. In everyday life, this means a soft, flexible and water- and sweat-resistant wristband that offers maximum wearing comfort even under extreme conditions. Alternatively, the stainless-steel strap with folding clasp ensures a robust, classic look.
