Habring² and SJX Watches announce the Chrono-Felix Medicus: A Vintage-Inspired Doctor's Watch

Habring² and SJX Watches announce a new collaborative edition born from an unusual commission: a group of physicians, among them the owner of the first Habring² × SJX edition, approached the partnership with a request for a true doctor's watch — one equipped with pulsation and respiration scales and executed in the spirit of vintage multi-scale chronographs.

[The collector and his friends] are all doctors and they liked several of the vintage-inspired chronographs Habring² had done in the past, giving us a natural starting point for the design." - says SJX. "However, I absolutely wanted to avoid a generic-looking chronograph with a retro design.”

Working from that brief, and drawing on a Shellman edition from several years prior as a point of reference, SJX and Habring² founder Richard Habring developed a design that honours the source material while introducing several firsts for the brand. The dial adopts Breguet numerals and a vintage-inspired multi-scale layout, while a discreet Habring² wordmark at twelve o'clock recalls the anonymous unsigned chronographs of an earlier era.

Among the technical distinctions: the watch features a single 30-minute counter positioned at twelve o'clock — a configuration Habring² has not used before — and a case with a flat, single-step bezel paired with a domed box crystal, likewise a brand first. The movement is a new variant of the signature Habring² calibre, developed specifically for this edition and making its debut here.

Building on the basic idea of vintage-but-different, I decided on two colour combinations for the watch” says SJX. “One is a blasted steel case with a grey dial and rose gold accents; a little evocative of nickel-plated cases and gilt dials. And the other is a classic silver-and-blue that brings out the textures on the dial.”

Two iterations, 25 pieces each (50 total pieces):

• Modern: Grey dial with pink gold-plated accents, with a sandblasted case inspired by vintage chrome-plated watch cases. The pin buckle has been blasted to match.

• Traditional: Silver dial with polished blued accents, meant to evoke similar vintage chronographs.

But it is not only the dials that are different, but also the case. Habring²’s cases typically have a stepped or sloped bezel, so I decided to go for a flat bezel with a domed crystal.”
