Furlan Marri Mechaquartz Chronographs 'Sabbia Rosa' & 'Ardesia Blu'

Furlan Marri introduces two new timepieces: Ardesia Blu & Sabbia Rosa, now joining the permanent collection.

The story of Mechaquartz

Our collection draws inspiration from François Borgel (later Taubert), one of the most renowned case makers of his time. In 1931, he patented the first waterproof screw-down case back with a gasket. He also supplied many of the cases behind today’s most iconic vintage chronographs. These were known for refined details, including engraved Tasti Tondi pushers, often seen on chronographs from the 1940s and 1950s.

Mechaquartz movements were first invented in Switzerland and Japan during the quartz crisis of the late 80's. In Switzerland, Piguet and LeCoultre were among the first to develop this specific module, while in Japan, it was Seiko. At the time, watchmakers wanted to combine the reliability of quartz with the tactile feel and sweep of a mechanical chronograph, bringing back the emotional dimension of watchmaking.

The choice of Mechaquartz

At Furlan Marri, we’ve chosen mechaquartz movements not as a shortcut, but as a deliberate choice. It gives us the freedom to focus on complex case construction, attractive design and refined finishing, without compromising on everyday practicality or price. We aim to reflect these stories through designs in which every detail bridges the past and the present.

This is made possible by the Seiko VK64, a compact and thin movement that creates room for detail, proportion and storytelling. Known for its reliability and robustness, it offers an instant and precise reset of the chronograph hand, and a soft, satisfying pusher feel, similar to a mechanical chronograph.

Crafted with care

The level of finishing seen across the collection, including brushed and polished surfaces, applied indexes, curved hands, and multi-textured dials, is typically found in far more exclusive pieces. By working with a mechaquartz movement, we are able to focus on the subtle details that truly set each chronograph apart, offering an elevated experience at an accessible level.

Among these details are the historical scales featured on our dials, each chosen for its original function and its relevance to vintage chronograph tradition. Tachymeter, pulsometer and asthmometer scales are not just decorative. They are functional tools from another era, reinterpreted with a contemporary eye. They reflect a time when every detail served a purpose, and when elegance and utility went hand in hand.

The Collection

The two new timepieces join the existing permanent collection:

  • Sabbia Rosa - Cream & champagne tones bring a soft luminosity to the wrist, evoking golden-hour and summer light. This chronograph features a tachymeter scale.
  • Ardesia Blu - Deep blue tones offer a sense of clarity and calm, inspired by endless horizons and the stillness of open water. This chronograph features a pulsometer scale.
