Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour 'Ultimus'

Today, the Fears Watch Company, a leading British luxury watch company, introduces the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Ultimus’, a limited-edition timepiece created in collaboration with watch personality Andrew Morgan.

Available to purchase during a one-week ordering period, the ‘Ultimus’ represents the final chapter of the Brunswick Jump Hour collection, first introduced with the Alliance 01 in 2023. The ‘Ultimus’ takes its inspiration from watches of the early 20th century, combined with contemporary materials such as sapphire and luminous ceramic.

Inspired by Art Deco

The 1920s was the origin of the first Fears wristwatches. This period of Art Deco was characterised by simple, strong shapes, and that’s the inspiration for the design of the ‘Ultimus’. It was also when the first cushion cases were found on Fears wristwatches, the genesis of the Brunswick case.

A clear, monochromatic display framed with bold lines invokes the transition of pocket watch dials into wristwatches for the first time. A subtle gradient surrounding the outer edge of the hour disk hints at the domed shape of early wristwatch dials. At a glance, the off-white and black tones suggest a simple, classic construction reminiscent of vintage designs.

The 'Ultimus' honours the design language that has shaped this collection while introducing contemporary materials and details that push it further than we have before. More than simply marking the end of a chapter, it celebrates everything the Jump Hour has come to represent for Fears over the past decade, and I couldn't think of a more fitting way to bring this remarkable watch to its conclusion."

Infused with contemporary materials

While its inspiration comes from the past, the ‘Ultimus’ is firmly rooted in the present.

Three sapphire elements sit above the hour display, revealing the normally hidden mechanism beneath, allowing the rotating hour disc to become a central part of the watch’s visual identity. This transparent construction offers a new perspective on the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour, highlighting the movement and the unique character of the jumping hour complication.

At the centre of the dial, a black minute hand contrasts against a textured luminous ceramic surface, while a frosted, semi-transparent minute track introduces a new level of depth and legibility. For the first time within the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour, this design incorporates an integrated hour magnifying window, giving the impression of a water droplet landing on the dial over the hour.

The result is the most contemporary interpretation of the Brunswick Jump Hour to date.

A twin personality

In daylight, the ‘Ultimus’ presents a sleek and considered expression of Fears’ design philosophy.

When viewed in low light, a second personality emerges.

The luminous ceramic centre and rotating hour disc create a deep blue glow that extends across the dial, visible through the frosted minute track and framed by the black outer ring. What results is a twin personality that allows the ‘Ultimus’ to be enjoyed in two very distinct ways. The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Ultimus’ marks the final evolution of the Fears Jump Hour, a fitting conclusion to one of the brand’s most distinctive contemporary designs.

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Ultimus’ is available on a hand made Obsidian Black Epsom calf leather strap, complementing the Phantom White dial. The watch is also available on the Brunswick 5-link stainless steel bracelet with the strap included.

The Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Ultimus’ will be available to order from the 10th to 17th August 2026 online and at the Fears Boutique in Bristol.
