Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Celestial’
Fears introduces new Celestial inspired aventurine and mother-of-pearl Jump Hour. Limited edition inspired by the night sky marks 180 years of heritage and ten years since revival.
Today, the Fears Watch Company announces the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Celestial’, a limited edition timepiece introduced during a significant year for the brand as it marks 180 years since its founding and ten years since its modern revival. Limited to 75 pieces, the ‘Celestial’ takes its inspiration from the beauty of the night sky and brings it to the jump hour model. The new watch debuts at INHORGENTA Munich, reflecting Fears’ continued growth within the European retail landscape.
A Dial That Evokes the Moon and Stars
The dial that sits at the heart of the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Celestial’ has been developed as a single, considered composition. Its dual-material construction is intended to evoke a full moon set against a clear night sky, creating a strong visual identity that defines the character of the watch.
The outer ring is formed from aventurine glass, selected for its deep blue translucency and the presence of fine metallic particles that create a subtle, star-like shimmer as the dial moves through the light. At the centre, a disc of high-grade white mother-of-pearl provides contrast and depth, its natural opalescence and organic variation forming the visual “moon.” Together, the two materials are conceived as one establishing the narrative of the dial at first glance.
Breguet Numerals and Celestial Details
Time is indicated via a jump-hour aperture at 12 o’clock, with an hour disc using a set of bespoke Breguet-style numerals developed in-house by Fears’ Horological designer Lee Yuen-Rapati. Defined by their softly curved forms, open counters, and restrained flourishes, the numerals introduce a sense of classical refinement while remaining legible and balanced within the architecture of the dial. Their appearance on the ‘Celestial’ marks the first time this typography has been used on a modern Fears watch.
Encircling the dial is a silver-printed minute track, subtly infused with metallic particles and arranged in a radial layout that references celestial mapping. The track provides structure and clarity while reinforcing the dial’s astronomical theme. A single rhodium-plated minute hand, finished with a combination of polished and brushed surfaces, moves across the dial with controlled contrast, interacting consistently with both the aventurine outer ring and the mother-of-pearl centre.
The “Fears England” signature is positioned in the lower half of the dial, a deliberate adjustment made to accommodate the jump-hour display while maintaining visual equilibrium across the composition.
The Night Sky on the Wrist
The watch is paired with a Fears Blue Barenia leather strap, featuring folded edges and additional padding to suit the Jump Hour case. The strap is lined in Fears Blue Alcantara for increased comfort and is fastened with the bespoke Fears cypher pin buckle.
As Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, (4th) Managing Director of Fears, explains:
We created the ‘Celestial’ as a way of capturing the impressive beauty and romance of a clear night sky, when in the calm of the wilderness, the stars seemed impossibly bright like the sky is filled with diamonds. I was keen to incorporate the new Breguet numeral set on this watch as the classical shapes work perfectly with the ‘celestial mapping’ minute markers.”
A Confident Step Forward in Europe
