Credor Goldfeather Urushi Lacquer Dial Limited Edition GBBY967

A new Credor Goldfeather watch showcases exquisite Japanese artisanship with a rare deep blue gradient dial created using urushi lacquer.

Since its birth in 1974, Credor has embodied sophisticated craftsmanship and refined elegance. Based on the French crête d’or, or “crest of gold,” the Credor name has always suggested the highest echelon of artistry in watchmaking.

As expressed in the brand’s philosophy, “The Creativity of Artisans,” artisanal skills abound in the fine details of Credor watches. Drawing on specialized techniques and experiences, the artisans pour their aspirations into each of their creations.

Today, Credor announces a new watch featuring a dial created through the artistry of urushi lacquer, a traditional Japanese decorative craft. It will be introduced into the Goldfeather collection and exhibited at Watches and Wonders Geneva later this month.

A deep blue gradient that elevates the traditional beauty of lacquer art

Traditionally, in Japan, there has been an aesthetic that finds depth in silence. It is a beauty that exists alongside tranquility, different from ostentatious splendor. For this dial, the Credor team sought to capture that concept through a delicate gradient that shifts from black at the outer edge to blue toward the center, evoking a sense of quiet refinement.

The color blue is rarely seen in traditional urushi lacquer crafts, making its presence on this dial truly modern and distinctive. To create a blue that harmonizes with the black lacquer, the color saturation was repeatedly adjusted and meticulously refined.

The lustrous blue gradation is achieved through repeated cycles of lacquering and polishing with whetstones, and a final finishing guided by the delicate touch of a skilled artisan with his own fingers. The dial’s gentle curve necessitates precise adjustments to its angle for uniform polishing across its contoured surface, a process that demands an exceptionally high level of artisanal skill.

Taka maki-e, a decorative technique within urushi lacquer art

The indexes, Credor letters, and Goldfeather letters are rendered in taka maki-e (raised maki-e), one of the traditional maki-e techniques, in which a design is drawn and built up with urushi lacquer before being dusted with metallic powder to create a striking three-dimensional finish. While gold or silver powder is typically used for this art, this new creation employs platinum powder, imparting a rich, soft glow.

Because platinum powder is difficult to process, the craftsman uses not only the traditional sea bream tooth tool for polishing the surface of sprinkled powder but also skillfully employs metal spatulas to meticulously finish the platinum maki-e.

The slim Credor Goldfeather case, crafted in platinum

The Goldfeather, first launched in 1960, was reborn in 2023 as the Credor Goldfeather, a modern dress watch that strives to embody the qualities of a feather: thin, light, smooth, elegant, and graceful. The watch’s case is made from Platinum 950. The fusion of this precious metal with meticulous craftsmanship delivers a remarkably slim profile and exceptional comfort on the wrist, all while imparting a refined impression.

The new watch is powered by the Caliber 6890, an ultra-thin mechanical movement with a thickness of just 1.98mm. A movement that only experienced master watchmakers can assemble, Caliber 6890 has a delicate finish, which can be viewed through the watch’s sapphire crystal case back.

The watch’s crocodile leather strap is sourced from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group.* This new Goldfeather will be available as a limited edition of 25 starting in June 2026.
