Bremont adds a new chapter to its flagship Altitude collection with the Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph Valjoux 23: a hand-wound limited edition built around one of watchmaking’s most celebrated historic movements, and limited to just 40 pieces worldwide.

Launched in 2025, the Altitude collection is the natural evolution of the celebrated MB aviation line, expanding the MB blueprint – most notably, its unique three-piece ‘Trip-Tick’ case architecture – into a family of charismatic watches inspired by flight and adventure. These include the classic MB Meteor, the Altitude Chronograph GMT and the Altitude 39 Date, as well as this year’s joyful special edition, the MB Meteor ‘Felix the Cat’.

As with 2025’s highly limited Altitude Perpetual Calendar, the Chronograph Pulsograph explores the codes of traditional haute horlogerie through the language of the Altitude’s redoubtable engineering and design.

At its heart is a ‘new old stock’ (NOS) Valjoux 23: the movement that powered some of the most revered chronographs of the 20th century, which has been meticulously upgraded and hand-finished. This legendary engine is combined with the vintage elegance of a warm salmon dial, and the dynamism of the Trip-Tick case in high-strength titanium, to read simultaneously as vintage and contemporary, sporty and ultra-refined.

The foundation of the Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph’s warm, heritage character is its Salmon-pink dial, a shade that draws directly from the palette of the great chronographs of the 1930s and ‘40s. Against this background, an array of textures, tones and finishes form a subtle but complex interplay, changing constantly as the watch moves in the light.

The vertically brushed central dial is offset by a grained surrounding area that frames the stencil-style hour numerals, applied in polished black gold with white Super-LumiNova® inlay. The subdials – a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a running seconds display at 9 o’clock, the latter with Bremont’s signature threepronged propeller design – are rendered in brushed silver, for a gentle two-tone ‘panda’ effect.

The pulsometric scale around the periphery, meanwhile, tips its hat to the early doctors’ chronographs, beloved by purist collectors today, that were used to measure the human heartbeat. Many such watches were powered by the Valjoux 23.

Turning the watch over reveals a glorious view of that very movement. First produced by the Valjoux factory back in 1916, the Valjoux 23 is a slim, 13-ligne column wheel chronograph of exceptional quality and design that remained in continuous production for nearly six decades. Its distinctive Y-shaped central bridge, its long levers, generous balance wheel and sinuous architecture make it instantly recognisable to collectors, and constitute one of the most visually compelling calibres from the golden era of wristwatches. It was adopted by many of the most respected Swiss houses, among them Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Rolex and Vacheron Constantin, before production eventually ceased in 1974; surviving New Old Stock examples are rare, and diminishing.

For the Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph, Bremont has worked with Chronode, the acclaimed haute horlogerie atelier founded by Jean-François Mojon, to source, refurbish and finish 40 such NOS movements. Each ébauche has been meticulously inspected, refined, assembled and regulated to Bremont’s exacting standards, and elevated with sumptuous finishing techniques. Rather than adopting specifically classical finishing styles, Bremont opted to combine the movement’s vintage character with a more contemporary expression of technical refinement: delicately grained surfaces, created with precise sandblasting techniques, reference the grained dial texture and contrast with rich chamfers and mirror polishes.

The Chronograph Pulsograph’s 42mm case is formed from lightweight, ultrastrong brushed titanium, employing Bremont’s patented Trip-Tick three-part construction, the signature of the Altitude collection, with a titanium case barrel. The case depth is an economical 12.52mm, a function of the Valjoux 23’s own slimline proportions. On the wrist, it sits and wears with a lightness that belies its presence.

The watch is offered on a quick-release leather strap in chocolate brown nubuck with ecru box stitch, a combination that reinforces the warmth and sartorial character of the dial.

The Valjoux 23 is, for me, the quintessential expression of what a fine vintage chronograph can be. Its architecture is something I have admired for years. When we brought this watch together with the salmon dial, the grained finishing, the pulsometer scale, everything aligned. It is not a recreation of a 1940s watch; I have never been interested in simply remaking something vintage. What intrigues me is the hybridisation of codes: taking something deeply iconic and allowing it to travel through time, to refresh itself.
