Bell & Ross BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle Diamond 36mm

Poetic, the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle Diamond 36mm is adorned with a new diamond-set bezel that illuminates the aventurine sky on which seven diamonds draw the Eagle constellation watching over summer nights. At once whimsical, delicate and full of character, the smallest BR-05 combines the geometric rigor of a square case with the jewellery-like delicacy of a round dial framed by a gem-set bezel. It asserts a femininity that is both timeless and contemporary.

A symbolic dial

The Eagle constellation (also known as Aquila) can be observed in summer and early autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Altair (whose name is derived from the Arabic “al-nasr al-taïr,” meaning “the flying eagle”) is the brightest star in this constellation and one of the vertices of the “Summer Triangle,” heralding the return of sunny days. With its wings spread wide, the bird represents Zeus’s eagle in Greek mythology. It forms the link between the heavens and mankind and perfectly symbolises Bell & Ross’s aeronautical DNA. The diamond Eagle constellation represents Bell & Ross’s signature: an elegant reference to the conquest of the skies, embodying power, freedom and the ability to soar.

A starry sky framed by diamonds

The dial of the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle Diamond 36mm is a work of horological art: the creation of this celestial tableau showcases the expertise of Bell & Ross artisans.

The new BR-05 36MM stands out as an exceptional creation: a watch with a singular character, precious by nature, whose sovereign elegance is revealed in every detail. Its symbolic, poetic and almost dreamlike dimension makes it far more than a timepiece – a genuine work of horological art,” says Bruno Belamich, co-founder and Creative Director of Bell & Ross.

The dial is made of aventurine glass, also known as aventurine, whose deep blue colour (Goldfluss blue) is dotted with sparkling inclusions evoking the twinkling of stars in a night sky. The creation of this dial requires great technical precision. Aventurine is cut, drilled, and machined using specific tools and handled with extreme care. Fixed with micron-level precision onto a rigid brass plate, it can then be set with gemstones. Enhanced by a crown of 108 diamonds set on the polished angle of the bezel, the dial of the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle 36mm becomes even more precious and poetic.

A complex gem-setting technique

The dial of the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle Diamond 36mm is a tableau where each stone intensely reflects the light and shines brilliantly. A true work of art to wear on the wrist, the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle Diamond 36mm embodies the fusion of material science, micro-engineering and artisanal craftsmanship. The exact position of each star in the constellation is represented by a diamond set on the aventurine dial. The largest one, positioned between 10 and 11 o’clock, represents the bird’s head and the star Altair, the largest and brightest star in the constellation. Three other medium-sized diamonds represent the wings and tail. Three additional stones – one medium-sized and two small – complete the outline of the constellation. Together with the twelve stones marking the hours, the dial of the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle features eighteen diamonds in three different sizes.

Reproducing the exact alignment of the stars in the Eagle constellation requires micron-precision drilling and specific gem-setting expertise due to the unique nature of the dial. Each diamond is set into a custom-made brass support secured by four prongs. This support is then inserted with great precision into the holes drilled into the dial. This stage is crucial: every movement must be precise and perfectly measured to avoid placing stress on the glass and to ensure the stability of the stones on the dial. A delicate balance resulting from the combination of the Swiss workshops’ technical expertise and their excellence in gem-setting craftsmanship.
