Amida Digitrend NASA Tribute

AMIDA today lifts the veil on its most ambitious project to date: the Digitrend NASA Tribute. Born from a design project utilizing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration logotype, this timepiece is not solely a cosmetic change but a structural re-engineering of the iconic Digitrend. Limited to 100 pieces, it features a monocoque black DLC-coated case, a white ceramic top shell, a proprietary jumping-hour module, and a design language anchored in the experimental spirit of 1976.

Following a covert global tour, AMIDA unveils the Digitrend NASA Tribute: A 100-piece limited series in white ceramic that celebrates the Space Shuttle era.

The "Classified Project": A Mission For The Crew

Before today’s public reveal, the Digitrend NASA Tribute existed only as "Project Enterprise" - a covert experience designed exclusively for the AMIDA "Crew" (subscribers and collectors).

During Geneva Watch Days and in Dubai, selected members received cryptic coordinates and a password: "The Worm." Those who followed the trail were led to a restricted briefing room where, after surrendering their phones and signing a physical non-disclosure agreement, they were enlisted into the program. There were no marketing displays, only classified files, engineering schematics, and a single prototype.

This unorthodox launch strategy mirrors the philosophy of the watch itself. We did not want a standard commercial release; we wanted to recreate the tension and excitement of a skunkworks project. This watch is a shared secret between the brand and its most dedicated supporters.

Pioneers of Design Honoring Pioneers of Humanity

The tribute is built on a shared DNA. As AMIDA views itself as a pioneer of unconventional design, this project pays tribute to the pioneers of humanity: the engineers and astronauts of the Space Shuttle program.

"Ad Astra Per Aspera" (Through Hardship to the Stars) serves as the guiding philosophy. The watch eschews the nostalgia of the 1970s space shuttle era to focus on the 1976 "Worm" logotype era, a time of reusable spacecraft, modern typography, and radical problem-solving. This timeline perfectly syncs with the birth of the original AMIDA Digitrend in 1976.

Engineered for the Mission

The Digitrend NASA Tribute translates orbital mechanics into horological engineering:

  • The Hull (Monocoque Construction): Just as the Shuttle required a structure light enough to fly but strong enough to survive launch, the watch utilizes a specialized monocoque case. Machined from a single block of 316L steel, the movement is loaded from the bottom, ensuring structural rigidity and a seamless profile.

  • Thermal Protection: The top shell is engineered from ceramic - the same type of material used to shield the Space Shuttle from the extreme heat of re-entry. We used this material to armor the watch case. It is scratch-resistant, unpainted, and chemically stable, ensuring the "hull" remains pristine over time.

  • Gravity Stabilization: The strap is a custom hybrid of Beta cloth and rubberized leather, utilizing a Velcro hook-and-loop fastening system. This is a direct reference to the zero-gravity utility of flight suits used during the program.
