Ace Jewelers and Renaud Tixier

Ace Jewelers announces its appointment as Authorised Retail Partner for Renaud Tixier, the independent Swiss watchmaking brand founded by Dominique Renaud together with Julien Tixier. As the exclusive retail partner for the Netherlands, Ace Jewelers is proud to represent Renaud Tixier and to introduce the brand’s work to the international community of collectors. Renaud Tixier timepieces will be available at the Ace Jewelers boutique in Amsterdam, located in the Royal Coster Diamonds building, where collectors can experience the watches in person, starting with the brand’s inaugural creation, the Monday.

Ace Jewelers works with a small number of independent, high-end watchmakers out of a long-standing and deeply personal fascination with watches. Coming from a background as life-long watch enthusiasts, the team at Ace is naturally drawn to founder-led brands that approach watchmaking as a field for experimentation, technical inquiry, and renewal, developing new mechanical ideas while keeping traditional techniques relevant and alive in a contemporary context.

Operating on a smaller scale, these independent watchmakers often follow a different rhythm, one defined by agility, technical curiosity, and a direct link between idea, execution, and the finished watch. This combination of mechanical inventiveness, hands-on craftsmanship, and clear authorship continues to resonate strongly with collectors. Within this context, Renaud Tixier sits naturally alongside names such as Biver, J.N. Shapiro, and Christiaan van der Klaauw, brands united by a shared commitment to engineering substance, low-volume production, and independent thinking.

Renaud Tixier: A Joint Vision Rooted in Experience and Continuity

Renaud Tixier is a joint watchmaking project founded by Dominique Renaud and Julien Tixier, bringing together decades of movement development experience with a contemporary, independent perspective. From the outset, the brand has been conceived as a collaborative effort, with both founders closely involved in defining its technical direction and long-term vision.

Dominique Renaud is widely regarded as one of the most influential movement constructors of the past forty years. In 1986, he co-founded Renaud & Papi, the specialist movement atelier that became a cornerstone of modern haute horlogerie, supplying and developing high-complication calibres for brands such as Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, and others operating at the highest level of Swiss watchmaking. The atelier played a defining role in the evolution of contemporary complicated movements, particularly in areas such as tourbillons, chronographs, and striking mechanisms.

Alongside this legacy, Julien Tixier represents the next generation of independent watchmaking within the project. Working in close partnership with Dominique Renaud, he has been instrumental in translating decades of accumulated research, experimentation, and technical refinement into a coherent, forward-looking brand. Established together, Renaud Tixier reflects a deliberate return to independent watchmaking, focused on applying long-developed ideas to a small number of original mechanical solutions, developed without external constraint.

The project is conceived as a collection of seven watches, each centred on a fundamental horological innovation. Rather than pursuing complexity for its own sake, Renaud Tixier’s approach is analytical and precise, questioning established solutions and rebuilding mechanisms from first principles.

The Monday: A New Approach to Automatic Winding

The brand’s first creation, the Monday, introduces a patented solution to one of the long-standing inefficiencies of micro-rotor winding systems. At the centre of the movement is a platinum inertia wheel, coupled with a tempered steel central spring known as the “Danseur,” designed to capture and reuse kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost during abrupt motion. The result is a self-winding system that operates with improved efficiency while remaining mechanically legible.

The calibre RVI2023 comprises 274 components and is finished entirely by hand. The movement features 187 inward angles, extensive anglage, black polishing, perlage, and Côtes de Genève, with bridges and balance cock executed in titanium. Components such as the micro-rotor, inertia wheel, and barrel ratchet are crafted in precious materials and finished individually, reflecting the brand’s emphasis on depth of execution rather than production volume.

The Monday is housed in a neo-classical 40.8 mm case, available in precious metals, with hand-engraved flanks and additional engraved plates between the lugs. The dial is grained and brushed, with carefully proportioned applied indices and an off-centred small seconds display. Design and finishing are restrained, allowing the mechanical architecture to remain the focal point.

Aligned Perspectives on Independent Watchmaking

For Ace Jewelers, the partnership with Renaud Tixier grows out of a long-standing, personal fascination with watches and a desire to actively support independent watchmakers who push mechanical ideas forward, refine traditional techniques, and keep high-level watchmaking relevant through thoughtful, founder-led work.

Commenting on the partnership, Alon Ben Joseph, CEO of Ace Jewelers, states:

Renaud Tixier represents the kind of independent watchmaking we believe in. The work is technically rigorous, clearly reasoned, and built for the long term. Dominique Renaud’s influence on modern watchmaking is well established, and together with Julien Tixier he has shaped a project that is both focused and disciplined in its thinking. The Monday is not a statement piece, but a considered starting point. We are proud to represent Renaud Tixier in the Netherlands and to introduce this work to our collectors.”

From the brand’s perspective, the partnership reflects a shared understanding of how independent watchmaking should be presented and supported.

Michel Nieto, CEO of Renaud Tixier, adds:

We approach distribution with the same care as we do watchmaking. Ace Jewelers understands the level of thought and manual work behind every component, and they take the time to communicate that properly. This partnership is about placing our watches with people who value patience, understanding, and technical integrity.”
